When the Toyota company first began selling vehicles in the United States, their catchy sales slogan began with "Oh, what a feeling!" Today, the Japanese automaker has relocated many manufacturing plants to the United States. The Camry is one of the most popular makes on the road today, and the designers at Toyota are continually reimagining the iconic sedan. The latest model of the Camry includes a new trim level known as the TRD, which we'll examine shortly.

Performance
The Camry is traditionally outfitted with a four-cylinder engine. The Camry came to popularity in the 1980s because of this small, fuel-efficient engine. However, some drivers were disappointed in the lack of power in the smaller engine. Today's Camry is a far cry from the original version of the car.
The base Camry today starts with a four-cylinder, but not the tame small engine of years past! The L, LE, SE, and XSE trim levels are equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, there is an option for a V6 gasoline engine in the XLE trim and the hybrid versions of the Camry all offera four-cylinder that is a hybrid engine. Each of these four-cylinder engines is capable of providing up to 203 horsepower! You definitely won't lose any "get up and go" where the Camry is concerned.
Safety
All Toyota vehicles are outfitted with Toyota SafetySense, which works to provide the driver and passengers with the optimum of safety features. You'll find that the Star Safety System is standard on all Toyota Camry cars. This feature includes ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), Brake Assist, Smart Stop Technology and Traction Control. You'll also find a wealth of airbags to protect the driver and passengers. All Camry cars now contain WIL (Whiplash-Injury-Lessening) seats. Safety Sense includes the following:
- Pre-Collision system
- Lane Departure Alert
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Steering Assist
Some upper trim levels of the Toyota Camry offer Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Technology
The latest Toyota Camry offers a wealth of technology, much of it a part of the standard safety features of the sedan. However, multiple pieces of software offer the driver a fun driving experience! One such software can be utilized with one's smartphone. iPhone users can utilize Apple CarPlay while Android users have the option of choosing Android Auto. You'll also see that Amazon Alexa is available as well as a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Trim Levels
The Camry offers six trim levels (additional option packages are also available):
- the L
- the LE
- the XLE
- the SE
- the XSE
- the TRD
The L is the base trim level. You'll enjoy the sporty look of the Camry with a modicum of amenities. Toyota Safety Sense is standard on this trim, and you'll enjoy a cloth trim interior.
The LE is the next step up on the trim level ladder. The LE features Daytime Running lamps, power mirrors, a moonroof, seventeen-alloy wheels, and optional dual-zone climate control.
The XLE offers a V6 engine option with a sporty exterior, including a rear spoiler, seventeen-inch alloy wheels, and an optional moonroof.
The SE is a great mixture of luxurious amenitieswith just the right number of practical features as well. You'll enjoy SofTex material in the front and rear seats, power mirrors, Daytime running lamps, an integrated back-up camera with dynamic gridlines, and more.
The XSE offers a V6 engine option.
The Long Awaited TRD
The TRD is considered a spiffy sports car. It is based on the XSE model, and TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development. Much of the TRD offers red trim on the seat belts, the stitching, and the dashboard lighting. The V6 engine optional to the XSE is standard in the TRD. A lowered body, along with a re-tuned suspension, adds to the fun of driving the TRD. Rounding out the uniqueness of the TRD is a black roof and a two-toned look for the car.
