What is Toyota Safety Sense? Well, this innovative new system is a collection of driver-assistive features added on to most new 2019 Toyota models in order to supplement the already high-rated safety features. The applications of the Toyota Safety Sense™ system help to give you a clear view of the road and your surroundings, pointing out obstructions and other hazards which might go unseen by your naked eye. Some of the TSS-P applications also help to keep an even pace between you and other motorists while others help you maintain a good line of sight with what's in front of you.

Above all, one of the best things about the Toyota Safety Sense™ suite is that these technologies come on most 2019 Toyota models in all of their trim levels including the base ones. Check out our new inventory and find a Toyota model with the TSS-P system today! These models are available for your purchasing or leasing pleasure at Scott Will Toyota, so check one out in Sumter, SC today!

Toyota Safety Sense™ Technologies

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/ PD) : This feature uses a camera located insider the vehicle, as well as a monitor on the front grille, to send you an audio and visual alert when the vehicle is about to collide with an obstruction, such as a cyclist, traffic cone, or pedestrian. If the obstruction is unseen by the driver, the PCS system used brake Assist to automatically stop the vehicle.
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/ SA) : With the in-vehicle camera, also used in PCS, the LDA w/ SA system monitors pained white and yellow line markers to gain an approximation of what lane you are in. Should you drift out of the lane for any reason, the system will first give you an audiovisual alert then can help steer you back into proper position if need be. LDA functions at speeds of 32 mph or higher.
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB): This system utilizes the in-vehicle camera and sensors to monitor high beams when driving at night and can detect when vehicle headlights are approaching and drifting away, switching the high beams on and off automatically as needed so as not to distract other drivers.
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC): The DRCC system uses the front grille sensor and in-vehicle camera to monitor your position in front of the vehicle ahead of you on the highway and sets the vehicle's speed to follow when cruise control is engaged. Should the vehicle ahead of you slow down suddenly, the DRCC will apply brakes while maintaining consistent speed to ensure you keep a safe distance away from the car in front of you and prevents tailgating. The DRCC can be activated at speeds anywhere from 25 to 110 mph.

While these applications are innovative and quite useful, they should not be used as a substitute for your own five senses, so it is imperative that you continue to stay alert even when using them.
